Really??? Let’s start this one off by saying that using the White House website’s “We the People” section (started by obama) to petition for secession is total crap. This isn’t the governor taking a petition of the state and then filing official paperwork of any kind to the federal government. No, this is “Joe Schmo” putting up some claim to ask, on behalf of the rest of the state, that they want to end the federal union that so many have fought and died for.
Now, that being said, it is significant. The only reason for that is because of the fact that they are getting people actually signing those petitions. More and more of them are showing up, too. The last count I saw was 36 such petitions.
The significance also lies in the fact that these petitions started showing up right after the election. Do you think people are pissed? Do you think there was enough peope in these 36 or so states that are ticked off enough at the election results that they would rather end their relationship with the federal union?
Never have we had enough of the Union want to pull away simply because of who was elected. If I’m wrong, prove me wrong and I’ll readily admit it. I don’t think any of you will be submitting any proof though. We had the Civil War because of policies of a president…not because they didn’t like his election. The north says Slavery, and is what started things. The south, and I’ve lived there, claims that it was because of the violation of to their State’s Rights.
We’re seeing something historic. The electorial college bit us in the butt and the people have had enough. I think these secession petitions are nothing more than a type of protest. I don’t see states actually leaving becasue, other than Texas, they don’t have the legal right to. All that aside we have to take note of these as something serious starting in the political climate of our country.
