About once a year I get an email that goes something like this:
I really enjoy your blog but my comments never show up. Why aren’t you accepting my comments?
John Q Reader
Please understand something. Unless the comment is offensive I NEVER just dump your comments. If you don’t agree with me, I’ll post your comment. If you think I’m nuts, I’ll post your comment. If you send hate mail comments…yep…I’ll post your comment. However, I think I know what the problem is. It’s called a spam filter. I stopped reading the comments in the spam filter long ago. They’re usually general crap like drugs to get your soldier to salute (if you get my meaning), fake Rolex watches, basic porn advertisements, and key word comments just to get accepted so they can permanently spam without being caught. Can you blame me for not wanting to go through hundreds of that crap every week?
So, let me make a statement here. If your honest comment gets caught in the spam filter…it will not be read. I’m not trying to exclude anyone. I’m really not. I just don’t have the time to fish for actual comments in a sea of spam. For those of you who don’t have a blog you can’t understand the shear amount of garbage that gets sent. It’s crazy.
There are a few things to make sure you don’t get caught in the filter, though. One of those would be to not add a website to you comment. I know you want to get your name out there but it will more than likely land your comment in the spam filter. It’s nothing against you it’s just how WordPress software works. So, PLEASE continue to comment. I really enjoy the comments that come in. Let’s just get the honest folks past the spam filter.
